Dr. Christopher Miller, Registered Psychologist. Therapist in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Struggle is part of being human. We all know what it’s like to feel stuck, uncertain, or alone—and how hard it can be to take the next step. Therapy is where you can bring those parts of yourself and know you’ll be met with care, not judgment. My work is built on safety, trust, and curiosity. Growth often means being seen and challenged in new ways, and I consider it a privilege to do that work with each person I meet.

I am a psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California (2005), and a registered psychologist in Newfoundland and Labrador. I have advanced skills and training in working with trauma, addiction, relationships, ADHD and other forms of neurodiversity, mood disorders, gender, and sexuality. I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including AEDP, EFT, attachment-based and somatic approaches, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and the Gottman Method, tailoring my work to the unique needs of each client. My approach is grounded in the belief that people are more than a diagnosis or a set of problems — that therapy can help restore dignity, resilience, and connection.

Outside the office, I bring the same curiosity and openness to life. I’ve lived in many places, but I have rooted here in Newfoundland and Labrador, drawn to its pace of life, its closeness to nature, its culture, resilience, and unique history. I value how this place is deeply connected to the modern world while holding onto its distinct identity. Living and working here, I’ve grown to love its language, community, and the way people show up for one another. This is my home, and I am here for the long term.

Approach

Empowering clients through an emotion-focused framework.

My approach to therapy is feminist, relational, and emotion-focused. I aim to support, challenge, and empower my clients. I believe that understanding patterns learned early in life can help change how we see ourselves and relate to others now.

By being compassionate, curious, and kind towards ourselves we can counteract negative messages that we may have absorbed.

This ongoing practice allows us to understand and appreciate what makes us unique, opening the door to more joy, meaning, and connection.

Effective therapy requires more than financial investment: it also asks for your time, energy, and emotional commitment. Along the way, you may encounter discomfort — strong feelings, difficult truths, or new insights. These moments often signal that growth is happening. In therapy, you will never be pushed beyond what feels safe; together, we’ll notice and regulate the level of challenge, so that you remain in control of your healing. What can emerge is deeply rewarding: more freedom in yourself, richer relationships, and a renewed sense of vitality and meaning.

I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or changes to appointments. Missed sessions without sufficient notice will be billed at the full rate.
